Essential oils against insects and mosquitoes

The good weather has arrived. Summer ... a magical time. The sun is shining, the hot summer days have arrived, the time of vacation trips, outdoor activities, and in general everything seems to be fine if there was not a single "but": insects and mosquitoes do not give rest neither day nor night. And all the charm of summer evaporates under the onslaught of irritation.

Take it easy! There are natural remedies that will not only help to expel annoying insects, but they will not harm you either.

There are enough repellants on the market, but they are all the result of the work of the chemical industry and are not only harmful to the environment, but also extremely dangerous to health. Especially when it comes to children's health.

It is time to use natural and at the same time effective means. Natural essential oils are one of the most effective and safest insect repellants.

Essential and vegetable oils can provide very effective but safe mosquito repellent protection. Their action is based on the fact that they repel insects with their scent, which contains aromatic molecules that act as "enemy signals" to flying insects.

However, before using them, remember that some of them are not recommended at all for pregnant women and young children. In any case, check with your pharmacist the dosage and limits, especially for dermal application.

Insect and mosquito essential oils can be based on several components; it all depends on personal preferences and individual tolerance of the components.

The best essential oils

Lavender - We love the smell of lavender, but ticks, insects, and mosquitoes all hate it.

Lemongrass - essential oil is one of the effective essential oils against mosquitoes. It really has a repellent effect. Its soothing properties will make it your ally at night without mosquitoes.

Eucalyptus - effectively controls any insect.

Peppermint - it is toxic to insects; anti-migraine, anti-inflammatory, anti-infective: peppermint essential oil is essential in the medicine cabinet.

Lemon - Lemon essential oil contains a compound known as "limolene" that is very effective against fleas and other insects.

But you must remember that essential oils must be diluted, since in their pure form they can cause irritation and even burns. As a base for mixtures, as a rule, "bases" are used: grapeseed oil, jojoba or almond oil, etc.

In this case, we mix 2 tablespoons of carrier oil with 20 drops of an essential oil of our choice and apply the mixture to the skin every two to three hours or after swimming or intense exercise. Children are advised to mix it with 15 drops of essential oil.

Do not forget that essential oils will work effectively and repel mosquitoes only if they are natural and of high quality.
